Questions Employees usually have on their mind,
Questions Clients usually ask or have on their mind,
Questions Companies usually have on their mind,
The Answers to all these Questions are timesheets. Most of the time relationships sour because of the lack of communication, show and demonstrating value helps deal with all the Questions above.
An employee cannot expect a Company to everything that they do. Timesheets are the easiest way for an employee to convery this information. Similarly the company show show the Client the value they are getting, again timesheets and reports do this.
Companies provide a Service to Clients and Clients like everyone else want to see what they are paying for.
Timesheets helps companies bill clients for time spent providing the service.
This "pain in the ass" process is important for Clients to pay the company.
It also have many benefits for the employee and for colleagues. Timesheet analysis allows companies to identify employees that are over-worked. Timesheets allows companies to fairly compensate and reward employees that go beyond the "call".
It helps the Client understand they value they are getting. Which can lead to a longer relationship with the company.
It helps the Company understand their employees better, which can lead to a better work environment and an mutually beneficial Company employee relationship
It's too complicated, should be Simple and completing it takes too much time.
Timesheets should take no more than 5-10 minutes to complete each day. Try and remove employee frustration as much as possible, by identifying areas that are creating problems....be open to ideas and compromise.
Submission are not easy and requires a lot of input.
Many companies employ complicated or tedious time tracking solutions. Simplify or automate part of the process. Timesheet submission should be easy and quick.
Create comprehensive service templates and tasks. A Service should have most of the Activities/Tasks listed. Evolve and modify Services where needed.
How can I account for every minute of the day?
Sometimes I do personal things in between my daily activities, I dont want to show this.
If you don’t want employees watching the clock and getting creative with 15 minute excuses here and there, do not demand timesheets that are precise to the minute. Condor has made the default unit of logging 30mins.
Don't penalize employees for spending time on other activities, use the information as an opportunity, identify the source of the issue and fix it.
Create an Open culture, report on non-work related time.
I dont like the Companies approach to resource management or timesheets?
Some companies use penalties to ensure timesheets are submitted on time (such as withholding PAY until timesheets are submitted/approved).
This may solve the problem in the short term, it however creates resentment.
Using a Caoort and Stick system can cause conflict in a team and creates animosity between managers and employees.
Sustainable companies builds a culture where all in the company understands the importance that timesheets contributes in Service Delivery and maintaining good relations between the Client, Employee and the Company.
